Frampton vs Quigg Reactions After Big Build-Up Lands with a Thud

I want to start off by saying that this fight really, and I mean really, disappointed me and perhaps many others. From all of the fights scheduled in the first quarter of the year there was no other I was looking forward to the most than this one, plus all of the talk from the fighters and their teams really helped it become a massive event n the U.K. that gathered lots of interest state side and what happened? Well they laid an egg on us, it was a terrible dreadful at times to watch fight, neither Quigg or Frampton looked like they wanted to win that night, they fought scared of each other and were overly cautious, too inactive and over defensive for the first 7th rounds, Quigg was afraid to let his hands go throwing one punch at a time and Frampton the better boxer could never put on an effective attack. I can't believe I dared to call this fight the U.K. version of Barrera/Morales, it had all the ingredients for an exciting and competitive fight but we didn't get that, instead we got the 122 version of Lee/Saunders and what I learned from their fight is that they are not ready for the big stage and for elite level of opposition at 122 (RIGO) and at 126 (Loma), if they stick around 122 I'd favor Donaire over both fighters.

I was also very excited for this fight but like lately the big staged fights failed to live up to its expectations after all the build-up & trash talking. Of course the crowd didn't disappoint with its chanting & cheering & furthermore kept the pace on my boxing bucket list to see at least one fight live in the UK in my lifetime. After a feel it out round in the 1st the next 6 brought much of the same with Quigg failing to pull the trigger & Frampton throwing jabs & keeping Quigg on his back foot. In the 8th Quigg seemed to partially come alive & win that round with the most effective punching. He continued his spirited comeback with good body work in the 9th & the fight started to shape up to what people had thought it would start off like. Quigg won the 10th & 11th, with the latter being his best round in catching & hurting a tiring Frampton. Frampton maybe fearing a turning of the tide stood his ground in the 12th & final round, which I scored for Frampton as well as the fight 116-113. I was glad to see both fighters show respective for each other after the bad blood that swirled in the build-up & embrace in the center of the ring after the final bell sounded. Can't say that either fighter endeared themselves to me & showed me they could continue to dominate at the higher level especially against the likes of a Rigondeaux or Santa Cruz. Selby unification fight would be interesting as well as a possible Frampton Quigg II in what I'm sure Quigg would fight a completely different fight.
